Update Emails

I sent out a few update emails throughout this house-buying process, and I thought for posterity's sake, I wanted the history of this thing to be in one place... :-)

****Email 1**** (post original moving dates and indymac going under)

Hello again!

Well, I wasn't going to send an email out just yet, because we actually don't have any specific details...however, given that the original "moving dates" have come and gone (and many of you have been asking), I wanted to update you all on where we stand.

For those of you who haven't heard, we did not in fact move into our new house yet. The mortgage industry problems coupled with bank problems have led to more paperwork and red tape than we could have possibly envisioned. We received permission to stay in our condo through this weekend in hopes of getting our keys this week sometime. We then learned today that we won't be closing until next week...however, given the process so far, even that statement is far from certain. We then received permission to stay in our condo longer (we think until the end of the month), but we will have the forfeit the $500 incentive we would have received for its selling while we were showing it. That said, $500 is less than what it would cost us (in money and hassle) to try and move our things into storage and find somewhere else to live.

We've been on an emotional roller coaster since this whole thing started (we made our initial offer on this house in April), and at times our patience is awful and our stress is high. However, we are reminded every day how blessed we are to be on this side of the economy and housing industry crises. I've been listening a lot lately to this song called I'm Letting Go, which essentially speaks to letting go of our plans for the future and trusting God to catch us and show us His way. It's been pretty therapeutic and a good reminder of all that God has provided in our lives.

Everyone has been so amazing throughout these last few months, and we can't tell you enough how much we appreciate your prayers, offers of help, and emotional support. I wish we had more answers and better news for all of you, and we can't thank you enough for your patience with our neverending updates!

For those of you in the area, I don't want to speak to any moving plans at this point. When we have our keys in hand, we'll send another email out. Feel free to ask if you have any questions...we will try to answer what we can!

****Email 2**** (sent Saturday, 8/23, post the most disastrous almost-closing ever)

Just in case you all were wondering, getting keys on Friday would have been entirely too simple. :-P

We signed papers last Tuesday, it took them until Friday to get it funded, and escrow was all set to do a "special recording" so we could take ownership on that day. However, apparently the seller had to sign ONE last document that did not get signed in time to record the deed on Friday. Thus, we have no keys.

As everything is now ready to go, we should get keys Monday. We want to go ahead and make moving plans (despite the possibility that with our luck, something else could cause a delay) for next week, because we are flying to St. Louis on Thursday for Labor Day weekend and need to be moved before then. :-) Sound fun?

SO, if you are in any way available Monday evening, Tuesday all day (Ben's taking off work), or Wednesday evening, we could REALLY use the help. Everything is ready to go as soon as we get keys. Please me know if/when you can help, so we know who to expect. (Dinners will be on us!)

Thanks again for all your support, and let's hope we get some good news Monday morning!
